To be clear, I believe Tab referred to the ability to switch from one discrete value to another half-way through a timing function curve. This is resolved by the WG but not yet implemented; there is definitely interest and demand for it.

There is no plan to handle the specific Unicode code point interpolation scenario you are describing, however. The spec doesn't say it's unneeded. It's just not something that's planned at the moment; that may change if it turned out to be a common pattern.
