I think that general UA will die on "War & Peace" [1]
trying to "columnize" it.

As for iBook pagination I have invented  <frame type="pager"> thing:
http://www.terrainformatica.com/2010/02/printing-support-in-sciter/
that suits better iBook cases as it require page numbers and
optionally interactive controls on pages, etc.
