I have a real example in mind: the International Herald Tribune's web
site used to provide users with the choice of single-gutter or multi-
column layout. That was managed through script and was a major burden on
the web site. It was removed some time ago largely because script
made it unmanageable. A widely available cross-browser CSS solution is
what they needed...
And differences between browsers in font sizes and other measurements
were not an issue at all.
