The CSS WG issued a last call for the "CSS Mobile Profile 2.0." See
http://www.w3.org/TR/2007/WD-css-mobile-20071019
This profile for handheld devices defines the minimum subset of CSS for
all mobile phones that support XHTML. It was made in cooperation with
OMA and has thus exactly the same set of features as the OMA's Wireless
CSS 1.1 profile. (The previous profile, version 1.0, was also made in
cooperation with OMA, but in the end there were still small
differences. This time we did better.)
Many mobile phones implement more properties already, but the profile
helps to bring some harmony at the low end. The expectation of most
people (in the CSS working group and elsewhere) is that mobile phones
are getting so powerful that this is probably the last time we make a
profile for them. Mobile browsers already try to support the same
content that desktop browsers support.
Almost everything in the profile is taken from CSS 2.1. The exception is
the marquee properties, which are from the Box Module Level 3. Those
properties aren't completely stable yet (a few issues remain), but
we're working hard to publish a last call for those as well.
This is expected to be the last draft of the profile, the next
publication should be a Candidate Recommendation. Of course, that
depends on the comments we get... The deadline for comments is
November 15.
Please, send comments to this mailing list, <www-style@w3.org> and
prefix the subject line with "[css-mobile]" as I did on this message.
That helps the working group find the comments.
For the CSS WG,
Bert
