The non-support of a certain feature in a certain UA won't be fixed  
magically by introducing another, new feature that is not supported  
by any UA.

Besides, IE somewhat supports |border-spacing|, i.e. when its value  
is set to zero (as was the case in the example), because IE supports | 
border-collapse|, which one would have to set to |collapse|.
