Could I suggest that "like" be replaced by "such as"
whenever the latter is more accurate ?  In the following :

"Scripts like Thai, Khmer, and Lao ..."

is more accurately rendered as "Scripts such as Thai, ...",
since Thai is one of the scripts that has the property
under discussion.
