Perhaps you should look into  
http://www.whatwg.org/specs/web-forms/current-work/ which also extends  
traditional web forms. I also think that instead of extending CSS even  
more http://www.w3.org/TR/xbl/ is far more appropriate to handle this kind  
of detail.
