IIRC, it is necessary to know whether the block's embedding
direction (as given by the 'direction' property on the block)
is ltr or rtl. If it were rtl, then the Y would appear at the
top right edge and the ltr text would resolve itself one
embedding level above the rtl text, beginning at the left
edge of the line and going until it meets the Hebrew before
dropping down to the second line.
