Okay, so the "initial" value is designed to allow authors to style parts
of their documents using the default appearance, while perhaps enclosing
them with styled content.

When you referred to "default" earlier, did you mean as an alternative
name for "initial"? That would be preferable, as "default color" is likely 
to make sense to more people than "initial color", which sounds as if it 
is only a temporary condition.
