aligning <img> with bottom of <div>

for aesthetic reasons I'd like to align images with the bottom of a row 
as in:
http://www.peepo.com/alfi-x/music/m.html

the top is easy enough one just sets the .top

for the bottom, is the top -offset of the  <img> the best one can do?
this is resource and labour intensive.

was there a reason that it was assumed that this was not needed, or 
have I got it all wrong?
