Inherited Alignment

In the course of giving my homepage a multi-column layout, I ran into the
following difficulty: how does alignment inherit inside tables? For
example, the spec says that TD is, by default, left-aligned, and TH
centered. Does that mean that inside a <P> inside a TH is centered, too?
And what about an <H2 ALIGN=RIGHT> inside a <TH>?
