SMIL21: syncMaster "read-only"?

Dear Synchronized Multimedia Working Group,

  http://www.w3.org/TR/2005/REC-SMIL2-20051213/ states for the
syncMaster attribute "The associated property is read-only, and
cannot be set by script." As there is no SMIL DOM with such a
property, it is unclear what this means; it seems though that if
the property reflects the attribute, that the attribute is read-
only; if that is intended, please clarify the Recommendation
accordingly.
