ACM Multimedia 2004 in New York, October 10-16, 2004

We are pleased to announce that ACM Multimedia 2004 will be held at
Columbia University, New York City, from October 10-16, 2004.

We invite your participation in the premier annual multimedia
conference, covering all aspects of multimedia computing: from
underlying technologies to applications, theory to practice, and
servers to networks to devices.

The technical program begins on Tuesday, October 12th, with an opening
plenary and keynote given by Gordon Bell, Senior Researcher at
Microsoft Research.  The keynote is titled "A New Relevance for
Multimedia When We Record Everything Personal".

The 3-day technical program includes:
  - 15 Technical sessions with talks from a wide variety of 
    multimedia disciplines
  - 2 Technical and Art Demonstration sessions
  - 2 Art sessions
  - 4 Brave New Topic sessions
  - An evening Poster session with 70 technical and 6 art posters
  - 2 Doctoral Symposium sessions
  - An Open Source Competition session
  - A Video Demonstration session

Six full-day and two half-day tutorials will be given over two days,
Sunday and Monday, Oct. 10-11. Tutorials include:

  - Video Game Structure and Development
  - Virtual Reality and Haptics as New Media in Multimedia

  - Emerging Peer-to-Peer Technology: Fundamentals and Challenges
  - Cross-layer optimized multimedia transmission over opportunistic 
    spectrum agile wireless networks
  - Multimedia Data Compression

Six day-long workshops will be held on Friday and Saturday,
Oct. 15-16.  They include:

Networks
  - Effective Telepresence
  - Continuous Archival & Retrieval of Personal Experiences

MM'2004 has negotiated discounted rates at the conference hotel,

on West 77th Street and Broadway on the Upper West Side of
Manhattan. Room rates are as follows: $150 for Sunday through
Thursday, and $195 for Friday and Saturday; room sizes are King or
Queen. Check-in time is 3:00pm (EST) and checkout time is 12:00 noon

or fax 212.787.9521. In all cases, you must refer to "ACM/MM" group in
order to get the preferred rates. The cut off date is September 16,
