In the direction of threading, ThreadsML [1] is/was an open initiative 
to try and cover the angle for weblogs (as well as every other 
communication mode under the sun ;-), but this has been on pause for the 
last year or so, almost certainly due to the distraction of the Atom 
project [2]. Might be useful for links though, likewise the (still 
unfinished) IBIS stuff [3] . I sketched out an RDF(S) approach [4], but 
that hasn't even made it into RDF/XML yet...
