RDF/XML Syntax Specification (Revised) 2002-03-25

I'm pleased to announce that the 3rd RDF/XML syntax working draft
developed by the W3C RDF Core Working Group has been published:

  RDF/XML Syntax Specification (Revised)
  W3C Working Draft 25 March 2002

  http://www.w3.org/TR/2002/WD-rdf-syntax-grammar-20020325/

This document defines an XML syntax for the RDF as amended and
clarified by RDF Core from that originally described in the RDF Model
& Syntax document. The syntax is now updated to be based on the XML
Information Set and XML Base.

For each part of the syntax a mapping is given for
generating the RDF graph, as defined in:
  RDF Model Theory
  http://www.w3.org/TR/rdf-mt/
and this mapping is done using the N-Triples graph-serializing test
format which enables a precise recording of the mapping in a
machine processable and testable form. These tests are gathered and
published in:
  RDF Test Cases
  http://www.w3.org/TR/rdf-testcases/

The main changes in this version are:

 * The document handles the majority of the syntax in RDF M&S
and the graph generation rules are considered mostly complete.
 * The completion of the rules for generating the graph for rdf:bagID
 * Rules for handling xml:lang with literals added.
 * Rules for handling XML Literals (not yet complete) from
   rdf:parseType="Literal".
 * The addition of XML Base support.
 * An updated introduction with new examples.

along with many other changes after RDF Core decisions made since the
last draft. Detailed changes are listed in the document at:
http://www.w3.org/TR/2002/WD-rdf-syntax-grammar-20020325/#section-Changes

The previous drafts also contained changes to the syntax, in particular:

  * Removal of aboutEach and aboutEachPrefix
  * Requiring namespace prefixes on all elements and attributes

The RDF Core WG encourages feedback and comments, especially with
regard to how the changes affect existing implementations and
content. Comments should be sent to the public mailing list
www-rdf-comments@w3.org and an archive of the comments is available
at http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/www-rdf-comments/
