Folks, and the RDF wg,

I humbly suggest that we suspend any discussion on the following
topics:

reification
representation
context
quoting
stating
modelling
representing...

...and so on, until we have more precise and agreed terms to throw
about.

I'm deeply confused at this juncture (which isn't a problem really,
since I'm easily confused). But at the same time I don't find myself
or the list reaching a higher level of confusion or moving forward on
these topics. It's also hard work keeping a track on individuals'
interpretations of terms. I don't feel anything much will be
accomplished here untill we agree on terms. Arguing is only
interesting up to a point.

My suggestion is a "good enough glossary" so that we agree what it is
we're talking about, with an eye to a w3c RDF terminology note that
might at some point becomes incorporated into future versions of the
RDF specs. It would also be helpful for anyone that is coming into
the list.

It's getting close to xmas now and I'm not sure that much can be
accomplished in the next few weeks. But maybe in the new year, this
is something we can address in a more controlled fashion, by spawning
some threads on the list or whatnot. I understand there is an XML
DevCon or something like it happening in London in Jan/Feb (I don't
have the details to hand). If anyone on the list or the wg is going,
I suggest a BOF. It would be great to go into the new year on common
ground.
