Summary of 29 April 2002 Patent Policy Working Group Teleconference

Hello,

Fifteen people attended the 29 April 2002 Patent Policy Working
Group (PPWG) teleconference. Several new participants have
expressed their desire to join the PPWG. The group discussed this
   procedure.

Next there was a very brief mention of the US Justice
Department/Federal Trade Commission hearings and the
   ANSI/Oracle/GWU Patents & Standards Symposium.

Most of the meeting was spent on a straw man proposal for a RAND
exception process, not a RAND track. Members of the RAND task force
spoke. One described the scenario that a Patent Advisory Group
(PAG) would be making a business analysis.

The group talked about whether price and royalties can be
discussed, and about antitrust, and CEMA and Soundview.

The group agreed to meet next on 3 June.

Best wishes,
--
