The original proposal to the Unicode Technical Committee for encoding these symbols is http://www.unicode.org/L2/L1999/99043.htm. That document is concerned with brace pieces for building up arbitrarily large braces. But conceivably TeX already overloaded its use of such pieces for for l/rmoustache.
