Last-Modified ??

HI,

i am using the libwww for a client-app who is watching at a specific
URL for changes.
after several times, trying to get out the Last-modified-Field
in the MIME-Header, i am really confused...
Now I know, there are 3 Formats for the Date.

But the last-modified entry is often not used by the Server ;-(,
and i think it is unusual to create an caching-mechanism.

How can i develop a simply cache-mechanism to determine when
an url as been changed ? 

any suggestions?
