Raffaele, Thanks for your bootstrap configuration. I figured out that the bootstrapping wasn't the problem - it's that Redhat 6.0 did not come with libtools as did Rh5.2. I simply got the most recent version off my closest GNU mirror, built/installed it, cleaned out my source tree, and everything is building right now flawlessly.
