XFLIFF and ITS update

Hi all,

this is just an update on a work item that has been going on between W3C and OASIS for a while now. The ITS IG started to work on how to make ITS 2.0 available in XLIFF. One can use ITS already as extensions in XLIFF, but this is a private approach with no standardized interoperability gain. The work going on now is aiming on making ITS 2.0 in XLIFF 2.1 available. XLIFF 2.0 has found a lot of support already by larger tool vendors and in open source tools. So this effort can help a lot to get ITS uptake in the localization industry. As you can see in this mail thread on the OASIS XLIFF list
https://lists.oasis-open.org/archives/xliff/201601/msg00014.html <https://lists.oasis-open.org/archives/xliff/201601/msg00014.html>
there is not an interest in all ITS data categories, so we may end up having only some of them in XLIFF 2.1. But that’s probably ok since the data categories can be used independently.

This mapping between XLIFF and ITS 2.0 is slowly moving forward. The current plan is to have this done by the end of the summer, keeping fingers crossed. If people have feedback on this work or interest in specific data categories within XLIFF please let us know.

Best,

Felix
