Hi Catherine,

Language tags at Wikipedia generally follow IETF BCP 47 [1], whose registry exists at [2]. 'alg' is an ISO 639-3 alpha3 code that is registered as a primary language subtag.

Note that 'alg' is a "collection" code in ISO 639 and encompasses a variety of other subtags for the various Algonquian languages.
