Re: ISO/DIS 3166-2

According to ISO Bulletin, March 1998:
"In April 1996, the working group decided to proceed with the country
subdivision code to the DIS stage, and ISO/DIS 3166-2 was circulated for
voting, which ended on 1997-04-07. The result was approval by 83% of the
P-members of WG2. In consequence, an FDIS is now being prepared. It is
recognized that it will take a long time before information regarding
national subdivisions can be obtained from all 238 countries figuring in
ISO 3166-1.
At the time of writing, this has been achieved and a final checking is made
in order to verify the correct spelling of subdivision names, including
diacritic characters. It is therefore envisaged that the FDIS will be able
to be circulated within short time."
