xhtml

I read your page http://www.w3.org/MarkUp/ with interest.

I am self taught at html, largely from your html4.01 specification, and
which I found easy to follow.

Your xhtml and xhtml Basic specifications are not so easy to follow, because
you are expected to know something about the subject already! A
comprehensive specification, like html 4.01 would be better, or
alternatively, many more links to the appropriate part of html 4.01 would
do.

One issue I have found (as an amateur) is that the html 4.01 guidance on
maps didn't work. When I tried writing html maps following the examples I
had no joy, but Dreamweaver somehow put them together differently, and they
did.

Also, and much more importantly, I have difficulty displaying objects - they
seem to work on some computers but not others. Images on the other hand
always display if I use <img src="... !

Any ideas?
