Thats all lies I own it personally. 

The first to find out how many pages on the web have <html></html> somewhere in them gets 10 percent. ;)

This is slightly different since a single organization, the W3C, is
clearly at the origin of HTML and do claim a copyright [1] on it.

Away from legal issues, when one sees what kind of documents are
accepted and generated by the software vendor, one may wonder who really
"owns" html, though...
