I'm looking at

Why is it &emsp; and &ensp; but   &mdash; and &ndash; ?

Why are  &mdash; and &ndash; equivalent to &#8212; and &#8211;
instead of &#151; and &#152; ?

Why are no character entity references below &#160; listed on
this page?

No flames please. I'm just trying to understand.
