Amaya with jave start problems

Hi there,

recently I tried to install and start amaya 1.1c with java which was 
successful in the first part but unsuccessful when starting.
I got the error message: could not resolv symbol "mallopt"!
Can anyone tell me what that means; is my kernel 1.2.13 maybe too old 
for amaya?
Why then is amaya 1.2 working very well (without java, of course)?
Both installed as binaries, sources weren't installable because any 
libs weren't found in the sources directories!
