Where do you count the bytes from?
News headers change in size when in transit, because the Path: lines get 
longer.

What is the canonical format of a News article?
The line ending problem is standing by to bite you again, as usual.

Since the News: URL is independent of newsserver, you cannot say that
it's whatever the news server sends; you will get different answers from
different places.

Just me being grouchy.....and I could be wrong....
