Plaintext and depreciated elements

Subject: Plaintext and depreciated elements
Regarding the <plaintext> element, will there ever
be a time when it won't exist at all?
I understand the need for backward compatibility,
but I think it might be good if depreciated elements
eventually fade away. Do they?
