You can use it like this, and it works:
<EMBED SRC="/sound/lowbdgor.mid" AUTOSTART=TRUE HIDDEN=TRUE>

Are you sure? Have you been at 
http://www.microsoft.com/ie/challenge/comparison ?

I *hate* to say this, but I think MS is a bit ahead by now...
