FRONT PAGE  - Portuguese accused of being white supremacists by South
African government receive little support from Portugal

According to the South African government, only Portuguese in Africa are
racist. For the Portuguese government, branding Portuguese vital to a
country's economy is being apologetic. This appears to be the bizarre
conclusion of the diplomatic debacle involving Portugal and South Africa,
sparked when South African Minister of Safety and Security, Steve Tshwete,
termed Portuguese racists. The Portuguese government however issued a
statement late this week, saying that it would not allow this community to
be "touched".

Nuclear duck and cover up

Britain has been accused of covering up an accident involving a Royal Navy
nuclear submarine in Portugal two and a half years ago, writes Siobhan
Mitchell. In response, the British Embassy in Lisbon and the Navy have both
circulated "clarifications" discrediting these reports.

TAP restructuring plan ready within two months

A plan to restructure the Portuguese airline TAP will be submitted to the
European Commission within two months, Minister of Transport and Public
Works Jorge Coelho said Monday in Brussels, after holding talks with
European Transports Commissioner Loyola de Palacio.

Portuguese beef recuperates

Contrary to trends in other European Union member-states since the eruption
of the latest BSE-scare, Portugal and its consumers have shown considerable
faith in national beef produce, with both prices and consumption increasing.

CJD-infected medication given to 100 recipients

The one hundred recipients who received medication containing albumin
donated by a British patient who later died of the human variant of mad cow
disease, remain unknown. The only apparent certainty is that recipients
are/were faced with "theoretical health risks".
