XHTML expressed as XML Schemas?

While I fully support the work on Modularization of XHTML, I do consider
the fact that it is only expressed through DTDs to be a weak point. An
alternative XML Schema expression or a least a public proof that XHTML
in it's present form can be 100% expressed using XML Schema would be
much better.
