range with variant step

Hi,

The range element is useful but with the constant
step it will be hard to use for long intervals.
For this purpose would be nice to consider computing
each step by function taking account of distance 
from the begin, the end, and the currently set value. 

It would be probably feasible IMHO to define 
attribute "distanceFunction" with values like
"linear|exponential|logaritmic" ...
