XForms WD 20011207: HTML 4 Hidden input functionality in XForms

At first seeming conspicuous by its absence, it looks 
like the equivalent functionality of an HTML 4 HIDDEN 
forms input control can be achieved by use of an element in 
the XForms instance data mechanism and not binding it to 
a form control.

If this is the intention, perhaps it could be spelled out in the 
XForms spec?
