Event methods preventDefault and stopPropagation

It is clear from the CR that calling preventDefault on an Event does not
prevent further propagation of the Event. However, it is not clear whether
calling stopPropagation on an Event prevents the default action from taking
place. My guess is that it does not but I'd like to verify this. Does it?
