Ugly font antialiasing on Ubuntu Linux

I set Amaya to use the same fonts as my other Linux apps--the DejaVu
family. They show up, but they are a lot more washed out than the
others. No subpixel smoothing perhaps?

I suppose Amaya (or wxWidgets) does their own font smoothing, or
perhaps they use a different part of the Ubuntu font system? Is there
some way of tweaking it?

Thanks,

Cay
