Problems of this kind has been reported several times. Basically, the last
version of Amaya uses more recent libraries (WX and Mesa) that fix the issue but
they are not integrated in Ubuntu (or other Linux distribs) yet.

What the user can try is to start Amaya with some additional arguments:
env XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1 G_SLICE=always-malloc amaya_bin

Otherwise, it is possible to install the last stable version at

http://www.w3.org/Amaya/User/BinDist.html

and hope all dependencies are satisfied.
