An UNC address of a file, like \\servername\folder\index.html does not work. This is a legal file path and Firefox rewrites it thus: file://///servername/folder/index.html Amaya also rewrites the address in a way that never reaches the seeked file, something like: C:\servername\folder\index.html Also, entering the file rewritten by Firefox does not brings the data but a "Not Found" error. All operating systems can read UNC files, including Windows.
