Multiple spaces converted into one

Amaya (9.51 Win2k) converts two or more spaces (in typed or pasted text)
into a single space.

I recognise there is a way of inserting a non-breaking space
(Control-Space), but I would like Amaya to automatically generate a
space and one or more non-breaking spaces ( ) when I paste text
which has two or more consecutive spaces in it, or if I want to maintain
my usual manual typing practices of pressing Space twice.

Can Amaya be configured to do what I want? If not, I would consider
finding the part in the source code where the spaces are removed, and
modifying it to insert non-breaking spaces.
