I've pointed this problem even before:

and I have proposed a correct/reliable solution. I was told my 
suggestions will be considered for future (should be current now) 
releases, but it is still not implemented.

You didn't say if you were able to start Amaya setting 
AMAYA_USER_HOME, after all?
