search function - can't work it!

My next bafflement: Amaya's search function is really frustrating to me.
(again, I'm on WinXP, using Amaya 8.8.3.

In several days of working with the program, I've gotten it to work
exactly once, and I couldn't replicate that at all. I don't get it. Why is
this so difficult? I work in text editors, HTML editors, word processors
for hours almost every day. I'm writing a sophisticated search function in
Ruby. But I cannot figure out Amaya's search function.

The Help article only describes what I expect will happen - how the
function should work. But, for me, it simply doesn't.

I don't know where to start in describing my problem. I've tried all sorts
of things, clicked all the options, buttons, etc. No matter what I do, it
doesn't work. "Not found" - that's all I get.

I sure hope I can be set straight on this problem. (But really, this
function shouldn't be so obscure, I would think.)

I look forward to some informed help!
