Actually, XHTML does not require the space before the termination 
character. This is done to accomodate certain (older) browsers which 
otherwise would have had a problem with the syntax.

"<br/>" works with the current versions of Amaya, 
Firefox/Mozilla/Netscape, Internet Explorer and Opera.
