edit and save file via FTP

hi

I know it is possible to edit and save files through the HTTP PUT method
this requires  server side scripts and passwords files (.htaccess) etc.

I can open files via ftp with my username:password
files reads and editing takes place
on Save amaya crashes or  gives  "fail to save to url"  error message
