I solved my problem. All the entries in Amaya-9.2/config/fonts.gl.win
 referenced TrueType fonts in directory c:\windows\fonts\, but there is no
 c:\windows\ directory on my systems.

I replaced c:\windows\fonts\ with c:\winnt\fonts\ everywhere in fonts.gl.win
 and that fixed things. Text is now visible on both Windows XP and Windows
 2000.
