I do not know if it is a limitation of wxwidgets, but for instance, 
Audacity, a program that uses wxwidgets, displays ctrl 
sequences in the right place, as you can see in the following 
image:


And in the wxwidgets web site, there is a screenshot that 
shows ctrl sequences in the right places
