ltconfig version error?

In /amaya/winxp/libwww/modules/md5, I try running:

/bin/sh ../../libtool --mode-compile
gcc -DHAVE_CONFIG -I. -I/amaya/winxp/../../libwww/modules/md5 -I../.. -I/ama
ya/winxp/../libpng/zlib -g -02 -W -DXML_DTD -DXML_NS -c
/amaya/winxp/../../libwww/modules/md5/md5.c

I get the following error:
libtool: ltconfig version '' does not match ltmain.sh version '1.3.4'
Fatal configuration error.  See the libtool docs for more information.

How can I solve this problem?
