Thanks for that, I've also found support for adding the role="dialog" to 
<div> elements which would be a container or parent element for richer 
content to be contained within.

Did you also try adding a tabindex="0" to the parent?

Also, did you try using a frame or even a table and giving it 
role="dialog" (just as a proof of concept?

Am also very interested in others thoughts..
