HTML Validation with ARIA

Hello,

Please is it possible to validate a html 4.01 web page that implements ARIA? 
Or is there a way to implement ARIA on a web page such that it will 
validate?

If this is not achieveable, please does anyone know why this is so? Thanks 
in advance.
