The &#8212; entity rendered much better than the &mdash;
I tested on Netscape4.x, Netscape6, IE5.5, Lynx2.8, Amaya, Opera.

The screen reader I tested also returned a punctuation beep sound
for the &#8212; entity, whereas it did not respond for the &mdash;.
