Subject: Digital Talking Book Standards

Draft NISO Standard Z39.86-200X, "File Specifications for the Digital
Talking Book" is being balloted by the members of the National Information
Standards Organization until December 17, 2001. General information about
the standard, plus a PDF version can be found at
http://www.niso.org/standards/balloting.html.

An HTML version is at
  http://www.niso.org/standards/resources/Z39-86-200X.html.

DTD's and other information on this standard can be found at
  http://www.loc.gov/nls/z3986/index.html

Significant work has gone into this standard since February,2001 when it
was first released for public comment. This is not the final, official
version of the digital talking book standard, but it is already at a point
where implementation experience would be useful.

Handicapped, Library of Congress,
